Why Microchip?

We emphasize the long-lasting benefits of microchipping, which serves as the sole permanent method of identification for pets. The individual identification number assigned to each microchip greatly enhances the probability of your beloved pet finding their way back home.

By utilizing a unique identification number in every microchip, the prospects of your pet’s safe return home are vastly improved once they are identified. Puppies

In accordance with The Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015, it is mandatory to microchip all dogs before they reach 8 weeks of age and ensure their identity, along with the contact details of their keeper, is registered on an approved database. It is important to be aware that non-compliance with this legal requirement can lead to a fine of up to £500.

Cats & Kittens

Considering the inherent curiosity of cats and kittens, it is highly recommended to microchip them, providing a reliable means of identification should they venture into unfamiliar surroundings. Microchipping surpasses the limitations of collars and pet tags by offering a secure and permanent means of identification, ensuring your pet’s information remains intact and easily accessible.

All cats in England may have to be microchipped by law as soon as this year under new government plans.

Advantages Of Mobile Microchipping

  • Ensures a relaxed atmosphere during the microchipping procedure, helping to alleviate any potential stress or anxiety for your pet.
  • Fosters a sense of security for your pet by minimizing the time they spend away from their mothers during the microchipping process, reducing the potential for separation anxiety.
  • Offers a time-saving solution by bringing the microchipping service directly to your location, sparing you the trouble of transporting the entire litter to the vet and dealing with potential car sickness and collective bathroom breaks.
  • Convenient, at a time that suits you.
  • Provides two free transfers of owner’s details on the database, allowing for seamless updates and ensuring the information is up to date.
  • Complies with a professional code of conduct and maintains complete public liability insurance coverage, emphasizing the paramount importance placed on your pet’s safety.
  • We never compromise on the quality of our service and ensure that each appointment receives the time it requires. We take pride in offering thorough aftercare instructions, providing you with the reassurance you need.

When to Microchip

  • Puppies: Between 6-8 weeks of age.
  • Cats and Kittens: From 8 weeks old.

What To Expect At Your Pet’s Appointment

Our appointment duration typically ranges from 30 minutes or more, depending on the size of the litter.

Informed Consent

We dedicate this time to discussing the microchipping procedure in depth, ensuring that you have a complete understanding of what it entails. We kindly ask you to provide your consent by filling out an informed consent form for each pet undergoing the microchipping procedure. This ensures that all the pet’s information is correct before it is recorded in the database.

Fitting the microchip

We understand the importance of your pet’s relaxation, and we make it a priority before initiating the microchipping process. Your pet’s comfort is our priority, and we will carefully position them on a comfortable vet bed mat, typically placed on a table or a similar surface. We kindly ask for your assistance in holding them during the procedure. To ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the microchipping procedure, we will conduct a scan to check for any previous chips. Your peace of mind is our top priority. Following careful preparation, we gently insert a needle between the shoulder blades and implant the microchip under the skin, prioritizing your pet’s well-being and comfort. With the microchipping process focused on the area between the shoulder blades, which has minimal nerve endings, it is usually painless for most pets. Following the needle removal, we will apply gentle pressure on the injection site using an antibacterial skin wipe. This step helps prevent bleeding and lowers the risk of infection. Following the insertion, we will conduct a scan to validate the precise positioning of the microchip and ensure seamless connectivity between the scanner and the database, confirming the accurate retrieval of the unique ID.

Pet Registration

You can have peace of mind knowing that all puppies and kittens will be registered on the Smarttrace National Pet Database within 24 hours of the appointment. This database is supported by a UK-based call centre that offers expert assistance and a dedicated service for lost or stolen pets. Once the microchip is registered, the Smarttrace National Pet Database will promptly send you a confirmation email to acknowledge the successful registration.

To comply with the law and ensure accuracy, it is essential to keep your pet’s microchip details up to date, including any changes in address or contact information.

After The Appointment

For a period of 4 hours following the procedure, it is advisable to avoid touching the implantation area. This promotes healing and prevents potential sensitivity in your pet.

As a precautionary measure, we suggest keeping your pet indoors following the procedure to prevent any dirt or debris from entering the injection site and to reduce the likelihood of infection.

To ensure a smooth healing process and prevent any potential discomfort, it is advisable not to put a harness or clothing on your pet for at least 4 hours following the procedure, as this can help prevent rubbing and inflammation of the injection site.

For the well-being and comfort of your pet, it is best to avoid bathing them for at least 24 hours after the implantation, giving the site sufficient time to heal and minimizing the risk of infection.
