Puppies

Ensuring compliance with the law, it is mandatory to microchip all dogs before they reach 8 weeks of age and register their identity and the contact details of their keeper on an approved database, as stated by The Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015. We kindly advise you to be aware that failure to comply with this requirement may lead to a fine of up to £500.

Cats & Kittens

Considering the inherent curiosity of cats and kittens, it is highly recommended to microchip them, providing a reliable means of identification should they venture into unfamiliar surroundings. When it comes to identification, microchipping far exceeds the reliability of collars or pet tags, as it eliminates the common issues of loss, breakage, or removal.

New government plans could make microchipping compulsory for all cats in England, possibly starting as early as this year.

Advantages Of Mobile Microchipping

  • Creates a comfortable and safe setting for your puppy or kitten, allowing them to feel at ease throughout the microchipping process.
  • Fosters a sense of security for your pet by minimizing the time they spend away from their mothers during the microchipping process, reducing the potential for separation anxiety.
  • Offers a time-saving solution by bringing the microchipping service directly to your location, sparing you the trouble of transporting the entire litter to the vet and dealing with potential car sickness and collective bathroom breaks.
  • Convenient, at a time that suits you.
  • Includes two complimentary transfers of owner’s details on the national database, allowing for easy updates and ensuring accurate information.
  • Adheres to a professional code of practice and holds full public liability insurance, ensuring the utmost priority is given to the safety of your pet.
  • We prioritize giving each appointment ample time and never rush the process, providing you with a thorough and unhurried experience. Rest assured that your pet’s well-being is our top concern.

When to Microchip

  • Puppies: Between 6-8 weeks of age.
  • Cats and Kittens: From 8 weeks old.

What To Expect At Your Pet’s Appointment

We schedule appointments with a minimum duration of 30 minutes, allowing adequate time to accommodate different litter sizes.

Informed Consent

This is an opportunity for us to walk you through the microchipping procedure, ensuring that you are well-informed about every aspect. As part of our protocol, we will ask you to fill in an informed consent form for each pet that will undergo microchipping. This step is crucial in ensuring that the pet’s details are accurately recorded on the database.

Fitting the microchip

Prioritizing your pet’s well-being, we strive to create a stress-free environment before commencing the microchipping procedure. We will provide a comfortable vet bed mat for your pet, usually placed on a table or a similar surface, ensuring their utmost comfort during the procedure. You will be kindly asked to hold them in place. To provide you with complete reassurance, we will conduct a scan to check for any previous microchip, ensuring a fresh and accurate microchipping procedure for your pet. Once your pet is settled, we delicately insert a needle between the shoulder blades and introduce the microchip under the skin, guaranteeing a smooth and gentle procedure. With the microchipping process focused on the area between the shoulder blades, which has minimal nerve endings, it is usually painless for most pets. Once the needle is removed, we will promptly apply pressure on the injection site using an antibacterial skin wipe. This ensures minimal bleeding and reduces the potential for infection. Following the insertion, we will conduct a scan to validate the precise positioning of the microchip and ensure seamless connectivity between the scanner and the database, confirming the accurate retrieval of the unique ID.

Pet Registration

Rest assured that within 24 hours of the appointment, we will ensure the registration of all puppies and kittens on the Smarttrace National Pet Database. With a UK-based call centre that operates 24/7, this database provides expert support and offers a dedicated service for lost or stolen pets. Upon registration of the microchip, you will receive a confirmation email from the Smarttrace National Pet Database to acknowledge the successful registration.

To comply with the law and ensure accuracy, it is essential to keep your pet’s microchip details up to date, including any changes in address or contact information.

After The Appointment

To promote healing and minimize any discomfort, it is recommended to refrain from touching the implantation area for at least 4 hours. During this time, your pet may be sensitive to any contact in that area.

For the safety and well-being of your pet, it is recommended to keep them indoors after the procedure to prevent dirt from entering the injection site, which could result in an infection.

For the well-being of your pet and to prevent any potential discomfort or irritation, it is advisable not to use a harness or clothing on them for at least 4 hours following the procedure.

To prevent any possible infection and promote a safe healing process, we advise refraining from bathing your pet for at least 24 hours after the implantation.
