Puppies
Ensuring compliance with the law, it is mandatory to microchip all dogs before they reach 8 weeks of age and register their identity and the contact details of their keeper on an approved database, as stated by The Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015. We kindly advise you to be aware that failure to comply with this requirement may lead to a fine of up to £500.
Cats & Kittens
Protect your cats and kittens by heeding the strong recommendation to microchip them, as their curiosity may lead them to wander into unfamiliar and potentially unsafe areas. When it comes to identification, microchipping far exceeds the reliability of collars or pet tags, as it eliminates the common issues of loss, breakage, or removal.
New government plans could make microchipping compulsory for all cats in England, possibly starting as early as this year.
Advantages Of Mobile Microchipping
- Creates a comfortable and safe setting for your puppy or kitten, allowing them to feel at ease throughout the microchipping process.
- Minimizes separation anxiety for puppies and kittens by keeping the time away from their mothers to a minimum during the microchipping procedure.
- Conveniently spares you the trouble of transporting the whole litter to the vet, which can be challenging and may lead to car sickness and multiple bathroom breaks.
- Convenient, at a time that suits you.
- Offers two complimentary transfers of owner’s details on the national database, providing flexibility and convenience in keeping the records accurate.
- Operates under a professional code of conduct and maintains full public liability insurance, providing peace of mind that your pet’s safety is well protected.
- Rushing appointments is not our practice; instead, we give each one the time it requires. We are committed to providing you with full aftercare instructions, guaranteeing your peace of mind.

- Cats and Kittens: From 8 weeks old.
What To Expect At Your Pet’s Appointment
The length of the appointment can vary, usually lasting around 30 minutes or more, depending on the number of puppies or kittens in the litter.
Informed Consent
We take advantage of this time to have a comprehensive conversation about the microchipping procedure, providing you with a clear understanding of what it involves. As part of our protocol, we will ask you to fill in an informed consent form for each pet that will undergo microchipping. This step is crucial in ensuring that the pet’s details are accurately recorded on the database.
Fitting the microchip
Creating a calm and relaxed atmosphere for your pet is our utmost priority before initiating the microchipping process. Your pet’s comfort is our priority, and we will carefully position them on a comfortable vet bed mat, typically placed on a table or a similar surface. We kindly ask for your assistance in holding them during the procedure. As part of our commitment to your pet’s well-being, we will carry out a scan to confirm that no previous chip has been inserted. This extra step is taken to give you peace of mind. Once your pet is settled, we delicately insert a needle between the shoulder blades and introduce the microchip under the skin, guaranteeing a smooth and gentle procedure. Your pet’s comfort is our priority, and in most cases, the microchipping procedure is painless due to the low concentration of nerves in the shoulder blade area. Our procedure includes the prompt application of pressure on the injection site using an antibacterial skin wipe after removing the needle. This ensures minimal bleeding and lowers the risk of infection. Subsequently, we will perform a scan to verify the placement of the microchip beneath the skin and ensure proper functioning. This involves confirming that the scanner accurately detects the unique ID and successfully links it to the database.
Pet Registration
Once your appointment is complete, we will promptly register all puppies and kittens on the Smarttrace National Pet Database, which includes a UK-based call centre available around the clock. This database offers expert support and features a dedicated service for lost or stolen pets. Upon registration of the microchip, you will receive a confirmation email from the Smarttrace National Pet Database to acknowledge the successful registration.
To comply with the law and ensure accuracy, it is essential to keep your pet’s microchip details up to date, including any changes in address or contact information.
After The Appointment
Allowing the implantation site to settle and heal requires avoiding contact for a minimum of 4 hours. During this period, your pet may experience sensitivity if the area is touched.
As a precautionary measure, we suggest keeping your pet indoors following the procedure to prevent any dirt or debris from entering the injection site and to reduce the likelihood of infection.
To ensure the comfort and healing of the injection site, we advise against using a harness or clothing on your pet for at least 4 hours after the procedure, as it may cause rubbing and inflammation.
For the well-being and proper healing of your pet’s implantation site, it is recommended to avoid bathing them for at least 24 hours after the procedure to minimize the risk of infection.
