What To Expect At Your Pet’s Appointment

The duration of the appointment varies depending on the litter size, typically taking at least 30 minutes or more.

Fitting the microchip

We understand the importance of your pet’s relaxation, and we make it a priority before initiating the microchipping process. We will provide a comfortable vet bed mat for your pet, usually placed on a table or a similar surface, ensuring their utmost comfort during the procedure. You will be kindly asked to hold them in place. We will perform a scan to ensure that no previous microchip has been inserted into your pet, guaranteeing your peace of mind throughout the microchipping process. Following careful preparation, we gently insert a needle between the shoulder blades and implant the microchip under the skin, prioritizing your pet’s well-being and comfort. Most pets experience little to no discomfort during the microchipping procedure, as the shoulder blade area has limited nerve sensitivity. Our procedure includes the prompt application of pressure on the injection site using an antibacterial skin wipe after removing the needle. This ensures minimal bleeding and lowers the risk of infection. After the insertion, we will perform a thorough scan to ensure the microchip is appropriately positioned and that the scanner effectively reads and links the unique ID to the database, ensuring reliable identification.

After your appointment, we take immediate action to register all puppies and kittens on the Smarttrace National Pet Database within 24 hours. This database is accompanied by a UK-based call centre that remains accessible 24/7, providing expert support and a dedicated service for lost or stolen pets. Rest assured that you will receive a confirmation email from the Smarttrace National Pet Database, acknowledging the successful registration of the microchip.

To comply with the law and ensure accuracy, it is essential to keep your pet’s microchip details up to date, including any changes in address or contact information.

After The Appointment

For the first 4 hours following the procedure, it is recommended to refrain from touching the implantation area. This allows the site to heal and reduces potential sensitivity your pet may experience.

To reduce the risk of infection, it is advisable to keep your pet indoors after the procedure, preventing any dirt from entering the injection site.

For the best outcome and to prevent any unnecessary discomfort, we suggest avoiding the use of a harness or clothing on your pet for at least 4 hours after the procedure, as this can minimize the risk of rubbing and inflammation at the injection site.

To allow the implantation site to heal properly and reduce the risk of infection, we advise refraining from bathing your pet for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
