Why Microchip?

We take great pride in offering microchipping services, as it presents pet owners with the exclusive permanent identification solution. The presence of a unique identification number within each microchip significantly heightens the probability of reuniting you with your pet if they wander off.

The Permanence of Microchipping

We recognize microchipping as the exclusive method of identification that ensures a permanent mark for pet owners. Through the inclusion of a unique identification number, each microchip significantly heightens the chances of your pet finding their way back home safely once they are identified. When it comes to lifelong identification, microchipping stands as a reliable and effective solution for pet owners.

At Tiny Paws, we recognize the strong emotional tie that exists between you and your furry loved one.  We are dedicated to offering a straightforward yet impactful solution to meet your pet’s identification requirements. Puppies

In accordance with The Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015, it is mandatory to microchip all dogs before they reach 8 weeks of age and ensure their identity, along with the contact details of their keeper, is registered on an approved database. It is important to be aware that non-compliance with this legal requirement can lead to a fine of up to £500.

Cats & Kittens

Protect your cats and kittens by heeding the strong recommendation to microchip them, as their curiosity may lead them to wander into unfamiliar and potentially unsafe areas. Opting for microchipping offers a superior level of effectiveness compared to traditional collars or pet tags, as it eliminates the risk of them being lost, broken, or intentionally removed.

New government plans could make microchipping compulsory for all cats in England, possibly starting as early as this year.

Advantages Of Mobile Microchipping

  • Ensures a relaxed atmosphere during the microchipping procedure, helping to alleviate any potential stress or anxiety for your pet.
  • Minimizes separation anxiety for puppies and kittens by keeping the time away from their mothers to a minimum during the microchipping procedure.
  • Saves you time and effort by providing a mobile microchipping service that eliminates the need to transport the entire litter to the veterinary clinic, avoiding the inconvenience of car sickness and collective toilet breaks.
  • Convenient, at a time that suits you.
  • Offers two complimentary transfers of owner’s details on the national database, ensuring that any changes or updates can be easily recorded.
  • Operates under a professional code of conduct and maintains full public liability insurance, providing peace of mind that your pet’s safety is well protected.
  • Your appointment is treated with utmost care and attention, and we never rush through the process. Our priority is to deliver a comprehensive experience, including detailed aftercare instructions to offer you peace of mind.

When to Microchip

  • Puppies: Between 6-8 weeks of age.
  • Cats and Kittens: From 8 weeks old.

What To Expect At Your Pet’s Appointment

Our appointment duration typically ranges from 30 minutes or more, depending on the size of the litter.

Informed Consent

We take advantage of this time to have a comprehensive conversation about the microchipping procedure, providing you with a clear understanding of what it involves. We kindly ask you to provide your consent by filling out an informed consent form for each pet undergoing the microchipping procedure. This ensures that all the pet’s information is correct before it is recorded in the database.

Fitting the microchip

We understand the importance of your pet’s relaxation, and we make it a priority before initiating the microchipping process. To ensure your pet’s comfort throughout the procedure, we will position them on a soft vet bed mat, usually placed on a table or a similar surface. We kindly request your help in holding them securely. As part of our comprehensive approach, we will carry out a scan to verify that no previous microchip has been inserted into your pet. This precautionary measure is implemented to provide you with peace of mind. With careful precision, we insert a needle between the shoulder blades of your pet and release the microchip under the skin, ensuring a seamless and comfortable experience. Rest assured that the microchipping procedure is generally painless for your pet, as the shoulder blade area has a low nerve sensitivity. Once the needle is removed, we will promptly apply pressure on the injection site using an antibacterial skin wipe. This ensures minimal bleeding and reduces the potential for infection. Upon completion of the insertion, we will conduct a comprehensive scan to verify the correct placement of the microchip and establish a successful connection between the scanner and the database, ensuring the accurate retrieval of the unique ID.

Pet Registration

Within 24 hours of the appointment, we will register all puppies and kittens on the Smarttrace National Pet Database. This database is equipped with a UK-based call centre that operates 24/7, providing expert support and a dedicated lost/stolen service. Once the microchip is registered, the Smarttrace National Pet Database will promptly send you a confirmation email to acknowledge the successful registration.

Maintaining up-to-date information is essential to meet legal obligations and ensure the proper functioning of the microchip, particularly when there are changes in your address or contact details.

After The Appointment

To facilitate healing and minimize sensitivity, it is advised to avoid touching the implantation area for a minimum of 4 hours after the procedure. During this time, the site needs to settle and heal.

To maintain a clean and sterile environment for the injection site, it is best to keep your pet indoors after the procedure, minimizing the risk of dirt entering and potentially causing an infection.

To promote proper healing and prevent any discomfort, it is recommended to refrain from using a harness or clothing on your pet for at least 4 hours after the procedure, allowing the site to settle without any rubbing or irritation.

To promote a healthy healing process and minimize the risk of infection, it is advisable not to bathe your pet for at least 24 hours after the implantation, allowing the site to heal undisturbed.
