Microchipping is the ultimate and enduring form of pet identification. With each microchip possessing a distinct identification number, we ensure that your beloved companion has a much higher chance of safely finding their way back home.
The Permanence of Microchipping
We recognize microchipping as the exclusive method of identification that ensures a permanent mark for pet owners. Puppies
To ensure compliance with the law, it is important to note that microchipping all dogs before they reach 8 weeks of age is a legal requirement. Additionally, registering each dog’s identity and the contact details of its keeper on an approved database is mandatory, as stated by The Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015. We want to emphasize the significance of adhering to these regulations, as failure to comply can lead to penalties of up to £500.
Cats & Kittens
Microchipping is strongly recommended for cats and kittens due to their natural curiosity, which increases the likelihood of them venturing into unexpected places. Microchipping stands as a superior alternative to collars and pet tags, providing unmatched effectiveness and peace of mind, as it cannot be misplaced, broken, or intentionally removed.
In an effort to enhance pet identification and safety, the government is exploring the possibility of requiring microchipping for all cats in England, with the introduction date as early as this year.

What To Expect At Your Pet’s Appointment
We allocate a minimum of 30 minutes for the appointment, allowing ample time to accommodate the size of the litter.
Informed Consent
It is during this period that we take the opportunity to provide a detailed explanation of the microchipping procedure and its components. As part of our protocol, we will ask you to fill in an informed consent form for each pet that will undergo microchipping. This step is crucial in ensuring that the pet’s details are accurately recorded on the database.
Fitting the microchip
We place great importance on ensuring the utmost relaxation for your pet before commencing the microchipping procedure. Your pet’s comfort is our priority, and we will carefully position them on a comfortable vet bed mat, typically placed on a table or a similar surface. We kindly ask for your assistance in holding them during the procedure. As part of our comprehensive approach, we will carry out a scan to verify that no previous microchip has been inserted into your pet. This precautionary measure is implemented to provide you with peace of mind. Once your pet is settled, we delicately insert a needle between the shoulder blades and introduce the microchip under the skin, guaranteeing a smooth and gentle procedure. With the microchipping process focused on the area between the shoulder blades, which has minimal nerve endings, it is usually painless for most pets. As soon as the needle is taken out, we will apply pressure on the injection site using an antibacterial skin wipe. This immediate action reduces bleeding and minimizes the risk of infection. Our next step involves scanning the area to verify the accurate placement of the microchip and establish a reliable connection between the scanner and the database, allowing for the precise retrieval of the unique ID.
Pet Registration
You can have peace of mind knowing that all puppies and kittens will be registered on the Smarttrace National Pet Database within 24 hours of the appointment. This database is supported by a UK-based call centre that offers expert assistance and a dedicated service for lost or stolen pets. The Smarttrace National Pet Database will send you a confirmation email to acknowledge the registration of the microchip and provide you with the necessary documentation.
To ensure compliance with legal requirements and maximize the effectiveness of the microchip, it is important to keep your details up to date, particularly when there are changes in your address or contact information.
After The Appointment
Allowing the implantation site to settle and heal requires avoiding contact for a minimum of 4 hours. During this period, your pet may experience sensitivity if the area is touched.
To reduce the risk of infection, it is advisable to keep your pet indoors after the procedure, preventing any dirt from entering the injection site.
For the well-being of your pet and to prevent any potential discomfort or irritation, it is advisable not to use a harness or clothing on them for at least 4 hours following the procedure.
To ensure the optimal healing of the implantation site and to prevent any potential infection, we suggest refraining from bathing your pet for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
