Puppies

Ensuring compliance with the law, it is mandatory to microchip all dogs before they reach 8 weeks of age and register their identity and the contact details of their keeper on an approved database, as stated by The Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015. We kindly advise you to be aware that failure to comply with this requirement may lead to a fine of up to £500.

Cats & Kittens

Safeguard your beloved cats and kittens by following the strong recommendation to microchip them, as their curiosity can expose them to unexpected situations that may compromise their safety. By choosing microchipping over conventional collars or pet tags, you provide your pet with a foolproof and permanent identification method that cannot be lost, damaged, or tampered with.

The government is considering making microchipping obligatory for all cats in England, and the commencement of this requirement could be as soon as this year.

Advantages Of Mobile Microchipping

  • Promotes a calm and relaxed state for your pet during the microchipping procedure, as it takes place in the familiar surroundings of their home.
  • Aims to minimize separation anxiety in puppies and kittens by conducting the microchipping procedure with efficiency, allowing them to return to their mothers quickly.
  • Saves you time and effort by providing a mobile microchipping service that eliminates the need to transport the entire litter to the veterinary clinic, avoiding the inconvenience of car sickness and collective toilet breaks.
  • Convenient, at a time that suits you.
  • Provides two free transfers of owner’s details on the database, allowing for convenient updates and ensuring the information is always current.
  • Adheres to a professional code of practice and holds extensive public liability insurance, assuring that your pet’s safety is always the top priority.
  • We never compromise on the quality of our service and ensure that each appointment receives the time it requires. We take pride in offering thorough aftercare instructions, providing you with the reassurance you need.

When to Microchip

  • Puppies: Between 6-8 weeks of age.
  • Cats and Kittens: From 8 weeks old.

What To Expect At Your Pet’s Appointment

The duration of the appointment varies depending on the litter size, typically taking at least 30 minutes or more.

Informed Consent

We dedicate this time to discussing the microchipping procedure in depth, ensuring that you have a complete understanding of what it entails. We kindly ask you to provide your consent by filling out an informed consent form for each pet undergoing the microchipping procedure. This ensures that all the pet’s information is correct before it is recorded in the database.

Fitting the microchip

Our top priority is to create a relaxed and comfortable environment for your pet during the microchipping procedure. We understand the importance of your pet’s comfort, and that’s why we will place them on a cozy vet bed mat, typically on a table or a similar surface. Your assistance in holding them in place is greatly appreciated. As part of our thorough process, we will conduct a scan to ensure that no previous microchip has been inserted into your pet, providing you with complete peace of mind. Once your pet is settled, we delicately insert a needle between the shoulder blades and introduce the microchip under the skin, guaranteeing a smooth and gentle procedure. The microchipping procedure is designed to be painless for your pet, as the area between the shoulder blades has fewer nerve endings. Once the needle is removed, we will promptly apply pressure on the injection site using an antibacterial skin wipe. This ensures minimal bleeding and reduces the potential for infection. Following the insertion, we will conduct a scan to validate the precise positioning of the microchip and ensure seamless connectivity between the scanner and the database, confirming the accurate retrieval of the unique ID.

Pet Registration

Within 24 hours of the appointment, we will register all puppies and kittens on the Smarttrace National Pet Database. This database is equipped with a UK-based call centre that operates 24/7, providing expert support and a dedicated lost/stolen service. The Smarttrace National Pet Database will issue a confirmation email to you, acknowledging the registration of the microchip for your pet.

Maintaining up-to-date information is essential to meet legal obligations and ensure the proper functioning of the microchip, particularly when there are changes in your address or contact details.

After The Appointment

To ensure proper healing and minimize discomfort, it is important to refrain from touching the implantation area for at least 4 hours. During this time, your pet may exhibit some sensitivity in the area.

To maintain a clean and sterile environment for the injection site, it is best to keep your pet indoors after the procedure, minimizing the risk of dirt entering and potentially causing an infection.

We recommend refraining from using a harness or clothing on your pet for at least 4 hours after the procedure to minimize the risk of rubbing and inflammation, ensuring a comfortable recovery at the injection site.

To prevent any possible infection and promote a safe healing process, we advise refraining from bathing your pet for at least 24 hours after the implantation.
