Fitting the microchip

To ensure your pet’s comfort throughout the procedure, we will position them on a soft vet bed mat, usually placed on a table or a similar surface. We kindly request your help in holding them securely. To ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the microchipping procedure, we will conduct a scan to check for any previous chips. Your peace of mind is our top priority. With your pet prepared, we carefully insert a needle between the shoulder blades and implant the microchip under the skin. This procedure is done swiftly and with minimal discomfort. The microchipping process is typically painless for most pets, as the area between the shoulder blades has minimal nerve endings. After withdrawing the needle, we will carefully apply pressure on the injection site using an antibacterial skin wipe to minimize bleeding and prevent any potential infection. Once the microchip is inserted, we will conduct a scan to confirm its proper positioning and establish a successful connection between the scanner and the database, guaranteeing the accurate retrieval of the unique ID.

The Smarttrace National Pet Database will send you a confirmation email to acknowledge the registration of the microchip and provide you with the necessary documentation.

Maintaining up-to-date information is essential to meet legal obligations and ensure the proper functioning of the microchip, particularly when there are changes in your address or contact details.

After The Appointment

For a period of 4 hours following the procedure, it is advisable to avoid touching the implantation area. This promotes healing and prevents potential sensitivity in your pet.

To ensure a clean and sterile environment for the injection site, it is advisable to keep your pet indoors after the procedure, minimizing the risk of contamination and potential infection.

To ensure the comfort and healing of the injection site, we advise against using a harness or clothing on your pet for at least 4 hours after the procedure, as it may cause rubbing and inflammation.

To allow the implantation site to heal properly and reduce the risk of infection, we advise refraining from bathing your pet for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
