Why Microchip?
We share the sadness caused by the loss or theft of thousands of pets annually. That’s why we stress the importance of microchipping and registering your pet’s details on a national database.
We emphasize the long-lasting benefits of microchipping, which serves as the sole permanent method of identification for pets. The individual identification number assigned to each microchip greatly enhances the probability of your beloved pet finding their way back home.
The Permanence of Microchipping
When it comes to identification, microchipping is the sole solution that offers pet owners a truly permanent method. With each microchip containing its own distinct identification number, the likelihood of your pet finding their way back home safely is significantly enhanced once they are identified. The proven reliability and effectiveness of microchipping make it a top choice for pet owners seeking lifelong identification for their furry friends.
At Tiny Paws, we recognize the profound connection you have with your beloved furry friend. We are devoted to delivering a seamless yet powerful solution to meet the identification needs of your beloved companion. Puppies
To ensure compliance with The Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015, we would like to inform you that it is obligatory to microchip all dogs before they reach 8 weeks of age. Moreover, it is necessary to register each dog’s identity and the contact details of their keeper on an approved database. We would like to emphasize that failure to comply with these legal obligations may incur a fine of up to £500.
Cats & Kittens
To mitigate the risk of cats and kittens straying into unknown territories, it is strongly advised to have them microchipped, ensuring their identification and facilitating their safe return if lost. Opting for microchipping offers a superior level of effectiveness compared to traditional collars or pet tags, as it eliminates the risk of them being lost, broken, or intentionally removed.
New laws being considered by the government may mandate microchipping for all cats in England, and the proposed timeline for this could be this year.

What To Expect At Your Pet’s Appointment
Our appointment duration typically ranges from 30 minutes or more, depending on the size of the litter.
Informed Consent
We make use of this time to go over the microchipping procedure step by step, ensuring that you are fully informed about what to expect. To ensure accuracy and completeness, we will request that you fill in an informed consent form for each pet being microchipped. This important step guarantees that the pet’s information is correct before it is registered in the database.
Fitting the microchip
Prioritizing your pet’s well-being, we strive to create a stress-free environment before commencing the microchipping procedure. To ensure your pet’s comfort throughout the procedure, we will position them on a soft vet bed mat, usually placed on a table or a similar surface. We kindly request your help in holding them securely. To ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the microchipping procedure, we will conduct a scan to check for any previous chips. Your peace of mind is our top priority. With your pet prepared, we carefully insert a needle between the shoulder blades and implant the microchip under the skin. This procedure is done swiftly and with minimal discomfort. The microchipping process is typically painless for most pets, as the area between the shoulder blades has minimal nerve endings. After withdrawing the needle, we will carefully apply pressure on the injection site using an antibacterial skin wipe to minimize bleeding and prevent any potential infection. Once the microchip is inserted, we will conduct a scan to confirm its proper positioning and establish a successful connection between the scanner and the database, guaranteeing the accurate retrieval of the unique ID.
Pet Registration
Rest assured that within 24 hours of the appointment, we will ensure the registration of all puppies and kittens on the Smarttrace National Pet Database. With a UK-based call centre that operates 24/7, this database provides expert support and offers a dedicated service for lost or stolen pets. The Smarttrace National Pet Database will send you a confirmation email to acknowledge the registration of the microchip and provide you with the necessary documentation.
Maintaining up-to-date information is essential to meet legal obligations and ensure the proper functioning of the microchip, particularly when there are changes in your address or contact details.
After The Appointment
For a period of 4 hours following the procedure, it is advisable to avoid touching the implantation area. This promotes healing and prevents potential sensitivity in your pet.
To ensure a clean and sterile environment for the injection site, it is advisable to keep your pet indoors after the procedure, minimizing the risk of contamination and potential infection.
To ensure the comfort and healing of the injection site, we advise against using a harness or clothing on your pet for at least 4 hours after the procedure, as it may cause rubbing and inflammation.
To allow the implantation site to heal properly and reduce the risk of infection, we advise refraining from bathing your pet for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
