Fitting the microchip

We will provide a comfortable vet bed mat for your pet, usually placed on a table or a similar surface, ensuring their utmost comfort during the procedure. To provide you with complete reassurance, we will conduct a scan to check for any previous microchip, ensuring a fresh and accurate microchipping procedure for your pet. With your pet prepared, we carefully insert a needle between the shoulder blades and implant the microchip under the skin. This procedure is done swiftly and with minimal discomfort. The microchipping process is typically painless for most pets, as the area between the shoulder blades has minimal nerve endings. Our procedure includes the prompt application of pressure on the injection site using an antibacterial skin wipe after removing the needle. This ensures minimal bleeding and lowers the risk of infection. Once the microchip is inserted, we will conduct a scan to confirm its proper positioning and establish a successful connection between the scanner and the database, guaranteeing the accurate retrieval of the unique ID.

The Smarttrace National Pet Database will send you a confirmation email to acknowledge the registration of the microchip and provide you with the necessary documentation.

Maintaining accurate and updated information is vital to meet legal requirements and ensure the effectiveness of your pet’s microchip. It is crucial to promptly update any changes in your address or contact details.

After The Appointment

Allowing the implantation site to settle and heal requires avoiding contact for a minimum of 4 hours. During this period, your pet may experience sensitivity if the area is touched.

For the safety and well-being of your pet, it is recommended to keep them indoors after the procedure to prevent dirt from entering the injection site, which could result in an infection.

To promote proper healing and prevent any discomfort, it is recommended to refrain from using a harness or clothing on your pet for at least 4 hours after the procedure, allowing the site to settle without any rubbing or irritation.

To promote a healthy healing process and minimize the risk of infection, it is advisable not to bathe your pet for at least 24 hours after the implantation, allowing the site to heal undisturbed.
