Prior to proceeding with the microchipping, we will kindly ask you to complete an informed consent form for each pet. This step is essential to ensure that all the details of your pet are accurately captured before they are entered into the database.

Fitting the microchip

We understand the importance of your pet’s relaxation, and we make it a priority before initiating the microchipping process. Providing a comfortable experience for your pet, we will position them on a vet bed mat, usually on a table or a similar surface. We kindly ask for your assistance in keeping them steady during the procedure. To ensure your pet’s microchipping procedure goes smoothly, we will perform a scan to confirm that no previous chip has been inserted. This step is taken to ensure your peace of mind. With careful precision, we insert a needle between the shoulder blades of your pet and release the microchip under the skin, ensuring a seamless and comfortable experience. The microchipping process is typically painless for most pets, as the area between the shoulder blades has minimal nerve endings. Following the needle removal, we will apply gentle pressure on the injection site using an antibacterial skin wipe. This step helps prevent bleeding and lowers the risk of infection. After the insertion, we will perform a thorough scan to ensure the microchip is appropriately positioned and that the scanner effectively reads and links the unique ID to the database, ensuring reliable identification.

Pet Registration

Once your appointment is complete, we will promptly register all puppies and kittens on the Smarttrace National Pet Database, which includes a UK-based call centre available around the clock. This database offers expert support and features a dedicated service for lost or stolen pets. Once the microchip is registered, the Smarttrace National Pet Database will promptly send you a confirmation email to acknowledge the successful registration.

Maintaining up-to-date information is essential to meet legal obligations and ensure the proper functioning of the microchip, particularly when there are changes in your address or contact details.

After The Appointment

To ensure proper healing and minimize discomfort, it is important to refrain from touching the implantation area for at least 4 hours. During this time, your pet may exhibit some sensitivity in the area.

As a precautionary measure, we suggest keeping your pet indoors following the procedure to prevent any dirt or debris from entering the injection site and to reduce the likelihood of infection.

For the best outcome and to prevent any unnecessary discomfort, we suggest avoiding the use of a harness or clothing on your pet for at least 4 hours after the procedure, as this can minimize the risk of rubbing and inflammation at the injection site.

For the well-being and comfort of your pet, it is best to avoid bathing them for at least 24 hours after the implantation, giving the site sufficient time to heal and minimizing the risk of infection.
