Puppies

Please note that according to The Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015, it is a legal obligation to microchip all dogs before they reach 8 weeks of age and register their identity along with the contact details of their keeper on an approved database. We would like to highlight that failure to comply with this regulation can result in a fine of up to £500.

Cats & Kittens

Considering the inherent curiosity of cats and kittens, it is highly recommended to microchip them, providing a reliable means of identification should they venture into unfamiliar surroundings. Opting for microchipping offers a superior level of effectiveness compared to traditional collars or pet tags, as it eliminates the risk of them being lost, broken, or intentionally removed.

New laws being considered by the government may mandate microchipping for all cats in England, and the proposed timeline for this could be this year.

What To Expect At Your Pet’s Appointment

Our appointment duration typically ranges from 30 minutes or more, depending on the size of the litter.

Informed Consent

It is during this period that we take the opportunity to provide a detailed explanation of the microchipping procedure and its components. As part of the process, we kindly request that you complete an informed consent form for each pet being microchipped. This step ensures that all the necessary details of your pet are accurate before registering them in the database.

Fitting the microchip

Prioritizing your pet’s well-being, we strive to create a stress-free environment before commencing the microchipping procedure. With your pet’s comfort in mind, we will place them on a soft vet bed mat, typically on a table or a similar surface. Your cooperation in holding them securely is greatly valued. To ensure your pet’s microchipping procedure goes smoothly, we will perform a scan to confirm that no previous chip has been inserted. This step is taken to ensure your peace of mind. Using precise technique, we insert a needle between the shoulder blades of your pet and introduce the microchip beneath the skin. This process is performed gently and with utmost care. With the microchipping process focused on the area between the shoulder blades, which has minimal nerve endings, it is usually painless for most pets. After withdrawing the needle, we will carefully apply pressure on the injection site using an antibacterial skin wipe to minimize bleeding and prevent any potential infection. Upon completion of the insertion, we will conduct a comprehensive scan to verify the correct placement of the microchip and establish a successful connection between the scanner and the database, ensuring the accurate retrieval of the unique ID.

Pet Registration

Within 24 hours of the appointment, we will register all puppies and kittens on the Smarttrace National Pet Database. This database is equipped with a UK-based call centre that operates 24/7, providing expert support and a dedicated lost/stolen service. The Smarttrace National Pet Database will issue a confirmation email to you, acknowledging the registration of the microchip for your pet.

To ensure compliance with legal requirements and maximize the effectiveness of the microchip, it is important to keep your details up to date, particularly when there are changes in your address or contact information.

After The Appointment

To facilitate healing and minimize sensitivity, it is advised to avoid touching the implantation area for a minimum of 4 hours after the procedure. During this time, the site needs to settle and heal.

To reduce the risk of infection, it is advisable to keep your pet indoors after the procedure, preventing any dirt from entering the injection site.

To avoid any discomfort or inflammation at the injection site, we recommend refraining from putting a harness or clothing on your pet for at least 4 hours after the procedure.

To promote a healthy healing process and minimize the risk of infection, it is advisable not to bathe your pet for at least 24 hours after the implantation, allowing the site to heal undisturbed.
