Before initiating the microchipping process, we will ask you to complete an informed consent form for each pet. Fitting the microchip

Creating a calm and relaxed atmosphere for your pet is our utmost priority before initiating the microchipping process. With your pet’s comfort in mind, we will place them on a soft vet bed mat, typically on a table or a similar surface. Your cooperation in holding them securely is greatly valued. To ensure your pet’s microchipping procedure goes smoothly, we will perform a scan to confirm that no previous chip has been inserted. This step is taken to ensure your peace of mind. With careful precision, we insert a needle between the shoulder blades of your pet and release the microchip under the skin, ensuring a seamless and comfortable experience. We take great care to ensure the microchipping procedure is painless for your pet, as the shoulder blade area is relatively insensitive to pain. We take immediate action by applying pressure on the injection site with an antibacterial skin wipe as soon as the needle is withdrawn. This prevents excessive bleeding and reduces the risk of infection. Subsequently, we will perform a scan to verify the placement of the microchip beneath the skin and ensure proper functioning. This involves confirming that the scanner accurately detects the unique ID and successfully links it to the database.

Rest assured that within 24 hours of the appointment, we will ensure the registration of all puppies and kittens on the Smarttrace National Pet Database. With a UK-based call centre that operates 24/7, this database provides expert support and offers a dedicated service for lost or stolen pets. Once the microchip is registered, the Smarttrace National Pet Database will promptly send you a confirmation email to acknowledge the successful registration.

Keeping your details up to date is crucial to stay in accordance with the law and ensure the accuracy of your pet’s microchip information, especially in cases of address or contact changes.

After The Appointment

To ensure proper healing and minimize discomfort, it is important to refrain from touching the implantation area for at least 4 hours. During this time, your pet may exhibit some sensitivity in the area.

To maintain a clean and sterile environment for the injection site, it is best to keep your pet indoors after the procedure, minimizing the risk of dirt entering and potentially causing an infection.

For the well-being of your pet and to prevent any potential discomfort or irritation, it is advisable not to use a harness or clothing on them for at least 4 hours following the procedure.

To ensure the optimal healing of the implantation site and to prevent any potential infection, we suggest refraining from bathing your pet for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
