Why Microchip?
We understand the heartache associated with the loss or theft of pets, which is why we advocate for microchipping and registering their information on a national database. This comprehensive approach maximizes the chances of finding your pet and bringing them back to you, where they belong.
We firmly believe that microchipping provides pet owners with the most reliable and permanent method of identification. Each microchip is embedded with a unique identification number that significantly enhances the chances of your pet being safely reunited with you.
The Permanence of Microchipping
We recognize microchipping as the exclusive method of identification that ensures a permanent mark for pet owners. Through the inclusion of a unique identification number, each microchip significantly heightens the chances of your pet finding their way back home safely once they are identified. The reliability and effectiveness of microchipping make it an essential method for ensuring lifelong identification for your pet.
At Tiny Paws, we realize the significant bond you have developed with your beloved animal companion. We are devoted to providing a hassle-free yet effective solution to address your pet’s identification needs. Puppies
To ensure compliance with the law, it is important to note that microchipping all dogs before they reach 8 weeks of age is a legal requirement. Additionally, registering each dog’s identity and the contact details of its keeper on an approved database is mandatory, as stated by The Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015. We want to emphasize the significance of adhering to these regulations, as failure to comply can lead to penalties of up to £500.
Cats & Kittens
Considering the inherent curiosity of cats and kittens, it is highly recommended to microchip them, providing a reliable means of identification should they venture into unfamiliar surroundings. Unlike collars or pet tags, which can easily fall off or be removed, microchipping provides a highly reliable and permanent method of identification for your pet.
New laws being considered by the government may mandate microchipping for all cats in England, and the proposed timeline for this could be this year.

What To Expect At Your Pet’s Appointment
Our appointment duration typically ranges from 30 minutes or more, depending on the size of the litter.
Informed Consent
This is an opportunity for us to walk you through the microchipping procedure, ensuring that you are well-informed about every aspect. To ensure accuracy and completeness, we will request that you fill in an informed consent form for each pet being microchipped. This important step guarantees that the pet’s information is correct before it is registered in the database.
Fitting the microchip
Our top priority is to create a relaxed and comfortable environment for your pet during the microchipping procedure. We will provide a comfortable vet bed mat for your pet, usually placed on a table or a similar surface, ensuring their utmost comfort during the procedure. You will be kindly asked to hold them in place. To ensure your pet’s microchipping procedure goes smoothly, we will perform a scan to confirm that no previous chip has been inserted. This step is taken to ensure your peace of mind. Using precise technique, we insert a needle between the shoulder blades of your pet and introduce the microchip beneath the skin. This process is performed gently and with utmost care. The microchipping process is typically painless for most pets, as the area between the shoulder blades has minimal nerve endings. We take immediate action by applying pressure on the injection site with an antibacterial skin wipe as soon as the needle is withdrawn. This prevents excessive bleeding and reduces the risk of infection. Our next step involves scanning the area to verify the accurate placement of the microchip and establish a reliable connection between the scanner and the database, allowing for the precise retrieval of the unique ID.
Pet Registration
Within 24 hours of the appointment, we will register all puppies and kittens on the Smarttrace National Pet Database. This database is equipped with a UK-based call centre that operates 24/7, providing expert support and a dedicated lost/stolen service. Once the microchip is registered, the Smarttrace National Pet Database will promptly send you a confirmation email to acknowledge the successful registration.
Adhering to legal obligations and ensuring the accuracy of your pet’s microchip information requires regular updates, especially in cases of changes in address or contact information.
After The Appointment
Allowing the implantation site to settle and heal requires avoiding contact for a minimum of 4 hours. During this period, your pet may experience sensitivity if the area is touched.
To reduce the risk of infection, it is advisable to keep your pet indoors after the procedure, preventing any dirt from entering the injection site.
We recommend refraining from using a harness or clothing on your pet for at least 4 hours after the procedure to minimize the risk of rubbing and inflammation, ensuring a comfortable recovery at the injection site.
For the well-being and proper healing of your pet’s implantation site, it is recommended to avoid bathing them for at least 24 hours after the procedure to minimize the risk of infection.
