When To Scan?

Scan 1 – Pregnancy Confirmation

The initial scan is typically conducted between 30-35 days from the last mating, serving to confirm pregnancy and providing an ideal opportunity to estimate the number of puppies and determine the due date.

*Please take note that the indicated number of puppies should be considered an estimation, as the presence of gestation sacs overlapping each other can occasionally lead to a duplication in count.

Scan 2 – Detailed View

Around 50+ days into gestation, we suggest scheduling a follow-up scan to ensure the pregnancy is progressing as expected and to obtain a detailed visual representation of the puppies. As part of our all-inclusive package, you’ll receive captivating photos and videos via email, offering a beautiful keepsake to commemorate this special time.

Scan 3 – Post Whelping

We understand the importance of ensuring a smooth birthing process for your pet. With our additional scan, we can provide peace of mind by confirming that the bitch has completed the birth process and by ruling out any retained afterbirths.

What To Expect At The Appointment

Appointment length: kindly set aside about 45 minutes for your pet’s appointment.

Step 1

Our team recognizes the significance of establishing a connection with your pet before the scan. We invest time in building a rapport and creating a comfortable atmosphere. We will discuss the scanning procedure, the anticipated results, and ensure all consent paperwork is completed to ensure a smooth and stress-free experience.

Step 2

With the scanning equipment set up, we will proceed by placing your pet on a cozy vet bed mat, specifically targeting their stomach area. During this time, we kindly ask for your cooperation in helping your pet maintain a steady position, promoting their relaxation throughout the scan.

Before beginning the scan, we will apply a sufficient amount of ultrasound gel to your pet’s stomach area and the probe head.

Step 3

During the scan, we will fine-tune the scanner’s settings to optimize the picture quality. Our scanning process begins at your pet’s tail end and progresses along the midline, enabling us to carefully inspect the interior and ascertain pregnancy while identifying individual heartbeats to assess viability.

When feasible, we will freeze the screen to explain our observations in detail. Additionally, we can create cine clips to document significant moments and share them with you via email, along with any images captured during the appointment.

Step 4

After completing the scan, we will take the necessary steps to remove any excess gel, minimizing the need for self-cleaning.

Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have, and we will provide you with information and advice on pregnancy and whelping, if needed.

Should the initial scan not show a positive result, we offer the possibility of a rescan. Within 7-10 days of the initial scan, you can take advantage of our discounted rescan service. Please note that the visibility of the pregnancy may become clearer as the gestation period reaches around 30 days.
