When To Scan?

Scan 1 – Pregnancy Confirmation

During the crucial 30-35 day period following the last mating, we conduct the first scan, enabling us to confirm pregnancy, estimate the number of puppies, and establish the due date.

*Please note that the number of puppies provided is an estimate, as gestation sacs tend to hide behind one another, which may result in an unintentional duplication during the counting process.

Scan 2 – Detailed View

Optimal for a rescan at 50+ days gestation, we assess the pregnancy’s progress and provide a detailed examination of the adorable puppies. As a special addition, we offer the delightful experience of receiving photos and videos through email, serving as a treasured keepsake.

Scan 3 – Post Whelping

Our commitment to your pet’s well-being extends beyond pregnancy. We offer a scan to ensure the bitch has completed the birth process and to confirm the absence of any retained afterbirths, providing you with added assurance.

What To Expect At The Appointment

Appointment length: your pet’s appointment is scheduled for an estimated time of 45 minutes.

Step 1

Your pet’s comfort is our top priority. We start each appointment by introducing ourselves to your furry friend, allowing them to become familiar with our presence, and explaining the scanning process to create a stress-free environment.

Step 2

After preparing the scanning equipment, we’ll gently place your pet on a comfortable vet bed mat, concentrating on their stomach area. Throughout the scan, we’ll appreciate your cooperation in keeping your pet in position to maintain their stillness and relaxation. Depending on your pet’s preference, they can either lie down on their back or stand up during the scan.

Before commencing the scan, we will ensure that your pet’s stomach area and the probe head are adequately coated with ultrasound gel.

Step 3

Throughout the scan, we will make necessary adjustments to the scanner’s settings to enhance picture quality. By starting at your pet’s tail end and moving up the midline, we can thoroughly examine the interior to confirm pregnancy and assess viability by identifying individual heartbeats.

If appropriate, we will pause the screen to offer a thorough explanation of our findings. Moreover, we can record cine clips to highlight key moments and forward them to you via email, along with any images taken during the appointment.

Step 4

Once the scan is concluded, we will thoroughly remove any excess gel, reducing the need for self-cleaning.

We will be there to address any concerns you may have and offer valuable advice on pregnancy and whelping, if needed.

If the initial scan does not reveal a pregnancy, we can discuss the option of a rescan. You have the opportunity to schedule a discounted rescan within 7-10 days of the initial appointment. It’s worth noting that the visibility of the pregnancy may improve as the gestation period progresses, particularly after 30 days.
