When To Scan?

Scan 1 – Pregnancy Confirmation

At the optimal time of 30-35 days from the last mating, we perform the first scan to confirm pregnancy, estimate the number of puppies, and establish their due date.

*Please take note that the indicated number of puppies should be considered an estimation, as the presence of gestation sacs overlapping each other can occasionally lead to a duplication in count.

Scan 2 – Detailed View

At the 50+ days mark of gestation, we recommend a subsequent scan to closely monitor the pregnancy’s advancement and obtain a comprehensive view of the puppies. As part of our inclusive offering, we will capture captivating photos and videos, which will be promptly shared with you via email, serving as a cherished keepsake.

Scan 3 – Post Whelping

To further ensure your pet’s well-being, we offer a scan to confirm that the bitch has safely completed the birthing process and to check for any retained afterbirths, giving you added peace of mind.

What To Expect At The Appointment

Appointment length: the appointment for your pet is expected to take around 45 minutes.

Step 1

We understand the importance of establishing a calming atmosphere for your pet. As a team, we dedicate time at the beginning of the appointment to meet your pet and create a sense of familiarity. We will explain the scanning process, discuss what we hope to see, and complete the required consent documentation.

Step 2

Following the setup of the scanning equipment, we will gently position your pet on a plush vet bed mat, paying close attention to their stomach area. We kindly request your cooperation in helping your pet stay in position, facilitating their relaxation throughout the scan.

We will prepare for the scan by applying an ample amount of ultrasound gel to both your pet’s stomach area and the probe head.

Step 3

As we perform the scan, we will continuously optimize the scanner’s settings to achieve the clearest images possible. Our examination will commence at your pet’s tail end, progressing along the midline to thoroughly investigate the interior, confirm pregnancy, and evaluate viability by identifying individual heartbeats.

When appropriate, we will pause the screen to offer a comprehensive explanation of our observations. Moreover, we can record cine clips to capture significant moments and send them to you via email, along with any images acquired during the appointment.

Step 4

After the scan is carried out, we will carefully wipe off any excess gel, minimizing the need for self-cleaning.

Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have, and we will provide you with information and advice on pregnancy and whelping, if needed.

If the first scan does not indicate a pregnancy, we offer the option of a rescan. Within 7-10 days of the initial scan, you can avail of our discounted rescan service. It’s important to note that the visibility of the pregnancy may improve after the gestation period reaches around 30 days.
